Días después del estreno mundial de “Testimonium” el nuevo álbum de Lacrimosa, Tilo Wolff gentilmente nos cuenta sobre la próxima gira por latinomérica que será en diciembre de este año y responde sobre varios tópicos sobre los que le consultamos:
¿Qué nos podés adelantar de la gira de presentación de Testimonium?
¡Este tour va a ser muy especial! Vamos a estar tocando el álbum “Testimonium” entero, así que va a ser un verdadero requiem.
A la hora de viajar a países donde nunca estuvieron, ¿Cuáles son las cosas que más les intriga conocer de estos? ¿Qué comidas les gusta probar por ejemplo?
Siempre estoy interesado en aprender algo sobre la cultura del lugar, hablando con las personas, intentando tomarme unos minutos para apreciar la arquitectura del lugar y obviamente probar la comida local. Estos aspectos son muy importantes para conocer un poco sobre el lugar que visitamos.
Este disco tiene un ambiente muy oscuro, quizás es de los más oscuros en los últimos 20 años de la banda, volvió a sus raíces: Angst, Einsamkeit, Satura, Inferno. Ya que es un Réquiem, se nombra a la muerte muchas veces, pero hay citas en particular (en Testimonium, Der leise Tod y Black Wedding Day) en donde pareciera que le reprochás a la muerte el por qué aún sigue aquí…¿Hoy en día, cómo vivís/experimentás esto?
Si! De echo este es el álbum más oscuro que hemos compuesto y la razón de esto se encuentra en el alma del mismo. El álbum es un réquiem, una confrontación entre morir, la muerte y los muertos ! Por lo tanto incluye los pensamientos sobre mi propia muerte como de las pequeñas muertes que transcurren a lo largo de nuestra vida. Cada vez que perdemos algo o alguien una pequeña parte de nosotros muere. A veces se siente como si la suma de todas estas muertes fuera la representación de esta pequeña vida que llamamos nuestra.
¿Encuentras alguna relación entre la canción “Ein Fest Für Die Verlorenen” y este disco, sentías la necesidad de mantener vivos a tus artistas en este disco? ¿Cómo viviste el suicidio de varios artistas en 2017? ¿Qué opinas de este tipo de decisiones y cómo repercute en sus fanáticos?
Muchas preguntas en una. Bueno, puedo aceptar qué hay una sinergia entre “ein fest für die Verlorenen” y “Testimonium” y es verdad que de alguna manera se siente como un chiste de mal gusto que en 2016 hayan muerto tantos artistas y algunos que no murieron ese año, se suicidaron al año siguiente. Ahora pienso que “Testimonium” puede ser un monumento simbólico para todos ellos, también como a quienes perdimos en nuestras propias vidas.
La canción Weltenbrand sigue la misma idea que la canción Das Schweigen publicada en 1993, con lo años, ¿aún seguís sin creer en la humanidad? ¿Qué pensás de la humanidad hoy en día? ¿Hacia donde vamos?
Cuanto más nosotros como humanos y sociedad nos alejamos de Dios, más nos perdemos. Desde que los humanos creen más en sí mismos y en lo que pueden alcanzar, inventos como los Smartphones se dedican a drenar sus cerebros, drones para matase fácilmente unos a otros y otras cosas, más gente se quedará insatisfechas, insignificantes y vacías!
En el último disco de SnakeSkin y los últimos discos de Lacrimosa hay algunos pasajes/melodías que recuerdan a Lacrimosa, ¿pensás que la brecha entre Lacrimosa y SnakeSkin se está reduciendo.?
¿Tenes en mente algún otro proyecto al estilo de Snakeskin que sientas que no podés llevar a cabo con Lacrimosa?
Hablando de “Tunes for my Santiméa”, realmente puedo decir que la línea entre este álbum y Lacrimosa en general se puso muy delgada! Pero aún no sé cómo será el sonido del próximo álbum de Snakeskin. Estoy trabajando principalmente de manera espontánea y esto es también lo que intento hacer cuando hago proyectos paralelos con otros artistas. Pero por el momento todo mi tiempo y atención se concentra en Lacrimosa.
¿Cuál sería el Line up de un recital soñado para ustedes? (puede incluir bandas que actualmente ya no toquen)
En este momento yo escogería a aquellos tres que más me inspiraron en el pasado: Prince, David Bowie y Leonard Cohen.
El fan club de Argentina nos hizo llegar su deseo de verlos tocar con una orquesta en vivo en el teatro Colón,¿Te gustaría la experiencia? ¿Creés que esto será posible en algún futuro?
Quizá algun día? Al momento prefiero rockearla en los shows!

What can you tell us about the “Testimonium” Tour?
TW: This tour is going to be very special! We will play the entire “Testimonium” album, so this is going to be a live requiem!
When it comes to travelling to places that you have not visited before, what are the aspects that you are more interested in? Any typical dishes for example?
TW: I am always interested in finding out something about the culture, starting with talking to the people, trying to find time to check the architecture and of course tasting the local food. These thre aspects are for me always very important to get to know a little from the country or the area we are visiting.
This album has a very dark atmosphere. Probably the darkest one talking about the last 20 years of the band. It is like Angst, Einsamkeit, Satura, Inferno…
There are some quotes in Testimonium, Der leise Tod and Black Wedding Day that in which you seem to complain about still being here. How do you experience it? How do you live with it?
TW: Yes, indeed! This is the darkest album I’ve been composing and the reason for this lies in its soul: this album is a requiem, a confrontation with dying, death and the dead! So this includes the thoughts about my own death as much as all the small deaths we are dying while living our lives. Every time we lose something or someone we die a little inside. Sometimes it feels like the sum of all these deaths are gibber than this little live we call our own.
Do you find any connection between “Ein Fest Für Die Verlorenen” and this album? Did you want to keep your favourite artists alive here? How did affect you the fact that several artists committed suicide in 2017? What do you think about making this kind of decision? How do you think this influences the fans?
TW: Many questions in one. Well, I can agree that there is a content synergy between “Ein Fest für die Verlorenen” and “Testimonium” and it is true that it somehow feel like a very bad joke that 2016 many artists died and some of those who managed to stay alive killed themselves one year later. Now I think that “Testimonium” can be like a symbolic monument for all of them, as well as for those who we lost in our personal lives.
Weltenbrand and Das Schweigen (1993) lead to the same topic. Do you still feel the same about humanity? Where are we going to?
TW: The more we as humans and we as societies move away from God the more we are lost. Since humans believe more into themselves and what they can achieve, inventions like smart phones to outsource their brains, drones to kill each other easily and other things, the more people will get unsatisfied, hollow and meaningless!
We noticed some similar patterns and melodies between the latest SnakeSkin and Lacrimosa albums. Do you think that the gap between you both is becoming thinner? Do you have any other projects besides SnakeSkin because the style does not fit with Lacrimosa?
TW: Speaking about “Tunes for my Santiméa” I truly can say that the line between this album and Lacrimosa in general got very thin! But I don’t know yet, how the next Snakeskin album will sound like. I am working mostly spontaneous and this is also what I intent to do when I do side projects with other artists. But at the moment all my time and attention is concentrated on Lacrimosa.
Which would be your dreamed line up for a festival? (You can include bands that are not currently playing)
TW: At the moment I’d pick those three who mostly inspired me in the past: Prince, David Bowie and Leonard Cohen.
The Argentinian fan club told us they would love to see you playing alive along with an orchestra in “Teatro Colón” (Colón Theatre). Would you like to do it? Do you think that could be possible in the future?
TW: Maybe one day? But at the moment I prefer rock shows.
